start with a dress
Start with a dress… a scarf, a sweater, or any item of clothing that has at least two colours + add a neutral, if necessary, to create your palette.
Stick to just that colour scheme to create a cohesive look for your family’s wardrobe, from head to toe.
In this example, the daughter’s dress was inspiration for her family’s colour palette of amber, navy, + cinnamon.
Colour repetition is key for cohesion, but utilize it in a variety of ways, mixing it up on tops + bottoms (to avoid looking like a uniform of all khakis or all jeans, etc.).
This family has successfully done that by distributing amber across the mom’s sweater, the daughter’s leggings + dress print, the son’s vest stripes, + the dad’s button-down shirt.
While this example scheme has a pop of amber colour, the same suggestions hold true for a monochromatic palette also:
• start with one piece of clothing that has at least two colours
• add a neutral, if necessary
• use colour repetition
• add variety
